ABOITIZ SEALS 2 RENEWABLE ENERGY SUPPLY DEALS

-

The Aboitiz Group’s power platform, Aboitiz Power Corp., has clinched two contracts to supply renewable energy to car builder NKC Manufacturing Philippines Corp. (NKC) and sugar producer Victorias Milling Co. Inc. (VMC).

In a statement, AboitizPower said its retail electricity supply arm Advent Energy Inc. sealed the deals to energize the manufacturing plants of NKC and VMC in the Visayas using renewable energy (RE).

Cleanergy is the company’s RE solutions brand that supplies communities and businesses with power derived from run-of-river, large hydro, solar and geothermal energy plants.

AboitizPower is yet to disclose pertinent details of these agreements such as capacity, offer price and contract period.

The renewable shift of NKC and VMC was made possible through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which allows electricity end-users with an average monthly peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts to directly contract their entire energy requirement from a licensed supplier.

GEOP is one of the voluntary mechanisms provided under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.

AboitizPower senior vice president for commercial opAlibaba Sandro Aboitiz said the latest development would sustain the company’s goal of reaching a 50:50 balance in its generation portfolio.

“We support the GEOP initiative of the Department of Energy as it gives customers the freedom to choose renewable energy in meeting their energy requirements and their own energy supplier,” Aboitiz said.

NKC president Norihiko Matsuda said using reliable and responsibly-sourced energy was important in their business operations.

“While we help build vehicles, we want to do our part in creating a safer world where families can enjoy the products we put to life. We are confident that having AboitizPower as a supplier paves the way for NKC to go full speed with this direction,” added Matsuda.

For its part, VMC said tapping cleaner energy sources to operate its bioethanol plant was one way of achieving its sustainability goals.

“As a sustainable enterprise, our company undertakes environmentally responsible practices within our business and promotes these across our supply chain and surrounding environment,” VMC president Minnie Chua said.
