Energy consumer advocate office proposed

A party list lawmaker has proposed the creation of an energy consumer advocate office, under the Department of Justice, to ensure consumers are duly represented in all energy-related proceedings in government agencies. Probinsyano Ako party list Rep. Rudys Caesar Fariñas filed House Bill No. 6237, or the proposed Energy Consumer Advocate Act, citing the “glaring” lack of representation for consumers in cases before the Energy Regulatory Commission. According to Fariñas, the Energy Consumer Advocate Office would act as “the independent consumer representative in all rate-setting, rule-making and other energy-related cases and proceedings before government agencies, including judicial and quasi-judicial bodies.”
