MAYOR TO DOUBLE ALLOWANCE OF CEBU CITY COPS
CEBU CITY—Police officers assigned in this city will get an increase in their monthly allowances from the local government, raising the gratuity from the local government by as much as P20,000 a month.
Councilor Philip Zafra, chair of the committee on peace and order, said Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wanted to double the allowances of police officers to reward them for their hard work.
At present, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has around 900 noncommissioned officers (NCOs) and 30 commissioned or high-ranking officers.
The NCOs are receiving a monthly allowance of P2,500 while commissioned officers get from P8,000 to P10,000.
“We’re considering here the police’s continued fight against illegal drugs and other forms of criminality as well as their contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and Typhoon ‘Odette,’” he said.
The city will spend around P4.7 million for the additional allowance of the police, said Zafra.
Zafra said the purchase of vehicles for the 13 police stations in the city as well as two police cars and 26 motorcycles for the CCPO will also be included in the budget for next year. Police Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for administration of the CCPO, welcomed the city government’s concern for police, saying it was already a big help to them.
“That (allowance) is just appropriate for the city’s police because of their workload,” he said.
“Every day, we have to do security deployment. Our police, most of the time, have 12hour shifts with no day off at times. So, it is also high time that the city government increases our allowance,” he said.
The police organization was established under Republic Act No. 6975, or “An Act Establishing the Philippine National Police under a reorganized Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).” The PNP is under the supervision of the DILG.
