AirAsia Philippines was recognized by an international aviation rating organization as one of the top 20 safest low-cost airlines in the world for 2023 after receiving a perfect score for both safety and COVID-19 compliance.

In a statement on Wednesday, the budget carrier said Airlineratings.com gave them a seven out of seven rating in terms of safety measures that now include protocols to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

“In AirAsia, we live and breathe safety. From the challenges brought by the pandemic to the most recent incident impairing the country’s communications and navigation facilities, our Allstar employees have demonstrated professionalism, tenacity and resilience,” AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla said.

“This recognition from Airlineratings.com is both a reminder and a motivation for all of us to raise the bar even more in the service of all our dear guests,” he added.

The budget airline said it was trekking the path to recovery this year, registering 75-percent overall load factor in just the first 10 days of this month.

Flights to Caticlan (Boracay) were the most in demand with 85-percent load factor. This was followed by Tacloban with 75 percent and Cebu, 70 percent.

For international flights, the most preferred destination was Incheon, South Korea, followed by Osaka, Japan. The carrier is set to open its Tokyo route next month.

AirAsia Philippines is projecting bigger demand for air travel this year.

“We are seeing a robust travel demand, especially as travelers now become more comfortable with locking their trips ahead of time,” Isla said.
