Ateneo de Zamboanga recalls alumni, Nieva
ATENEO de Zamboanga University will honor this year’s Golden Jubilee class at the grand alumni homecoming on Dec. 2-4 in Zamboanga City. This year’s golden jubilarians are the high school class of 1961 who graduated 50 years ago.
Among them was the late Antonio “Tony” Ma. Nieva who rose to become a topnotch journalist and editor at the Philippines Herald, Manila Bulletin and Philippine Daily Inquirer. He was two-term president of the National Press Club and founded the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines.
Nieva was the first Filipino secretary-general of the International Union of Journalists based in Prague, Czech Republic, where he died of an illness in October 1997.
Ateneo de Zamboanga president, Rev. Fr. Antonio F. Moreno S.J., said “the legacy Nieva left for his class, the Ateneo and the nation will be cherished and remembered always.”
Moreno called on alumni here and abroad to return to the Ateneo de Zamboanga for the homecoming. For details, call Francisco “Kit” Lorenzo at 09177102188, Christine Calunod (62)991-0871 or Rolando Bejerano 0917-710337.
