TOP CHEFS COME TOGETHER FOR PH EDUCATION

-

On March 11, the country’s culinary masters will once again whip up a feast in support of greater education.

“Chefs for Education” at Whitespace Makati hopes to raise funds to support the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) and its 1000 Teachers Program (1000TP), which provides scholarships for aspiring teachers.

At the helm is Asia’s Best Female Chef Margarita Forés of Cibo, Lusso, Alta and Grace Park who, as a culinary apprentice in Italy, learned about the crucial role that teachers play in shaping young minds that become the engines of the future. She imagines the evening as “one that celebrates not just good food but also the spirit of change in education, especially for our teachers.”

Joining her are fellow culinary stalwarts Vicky Pacheco (The Chateau Group), Colin Mackay (Sala & The Blackbird), Norbert Gandler (Iscahm) and Miko Aspiras (Le Petit Soufflé, Scout’s Honor, Garde Manger).

The third of its kind, this year’s event, “Chefs for Education 3: Fresh!” takes its thematic inspiration from the onset of the spring months and will feature a full-course dinner made from only the freshest local produce.

The guest list includes industry giants, academic

leaders and food enthusiasts alike, all in the spirit of empowering the country’s teaching force. Proceeds will fund graduating scholars as they prepare for the Licensure Exam for Teachers.

“My passion has always been cooking, yes, but I couldn’t have made it without my teachers. It’s more than aworthy cause for me,” says chef Vicky of Chateau 1771 and Sentro fame.

PBEd’s 1000 Teachers Program is a scholarship program that has touched the lives of a total of 307 scholars by forging partnerships with 22 teacher education institutions and numerous other stakeholders in the country. This year’s festivities are particularly meaningful as PBEd celebrates its 10th year of pushing for real and lasting reforms in Philippine education.

The PBEd, composed of the country’s top business leaders, is committed to furthering basic education reform, teacher quality improvement and workforce development. “Chefs for Education 3: Fresh!” will be held at Whitespace, Chino Roces Extension, on March 11, 6p.m. Call 09154954321.
