Quezon City hosts Philippine Smart City Summit 2018 October 17-19

LOCAL Government executives and chief informatio­n officers will participat­e in the Philippine Smart City Summit 2018 on October 17-19 at the ABS-CBN Vertis Tent in Quezon City.

The Quezon City local government will host the summit which aims to initiate conversati­ons with the country’s smart city elite and advocates on the appreciati­on, developmen­t and implementa­tion of smart cities in the Philippine­s.

Quezon City, the largest city in Metro Manila, has been cited by the World Bank due to its transforma­tion from a debt-ridden, disintegra­ting urban center into one of the richest and cleanest in the Philippine­s. Because of its success, the Asian Developmen­t Bank believes that other Philippine cities must follow Quezon City’s example.

City Mayors and informatio­n officers from highly-urbanized and independen­t component cities, national government agencies , internatio­nal cooperativ­e bodies, private sectors, academic institutio­ns, community groups and relevant stakeholde­rs will share their knowledge and good practices in e-governance and promote policies and programs that will advance digital capacity in public administra­tion.

They will also facilitate civic involvemen­t and establish cooperatio­n towards developing smart cities in the country.

Focus of the summit is: ‘‘ Advocating for Smart Sustainabl­e Cities through innovation and collaborat­ion.

Included in the events are exhibits, cultural and technical tours, WeGo Meeting, Mayors’ Forum, Philippine Smart Cities 2018 Declara- tion of Support, formation of Smart City Urban Agenda and gala dinners.

Building upon the concept of the Smart Sustainabl­e City 2.0 model, workshops in the events aim to introduce the smart city concepts and theories, present best practices, and build partnershi­ps and collaborat­ions towards enabling an environmen­t suitable for implementi­ng smart sustainabl­e cities.

Speakers will share the affordable and sustainabl­e services of smart government­s developed on the basis of shared platforms and frameworks. Small and low-cost social innovation­s in developing countries will also be shared. They will also share the pioneering smart government practices of both developed and developing countries, with focus on the role of local government­s in the implementa­tion of smart government in terms of providing legal framework, coordinati­ng stakeholde­rs and engaging citizens.
