Quezon City hosts Philippine Smart City Summit 2018 October 17-19
LOCAL Government executives and chief information officers will participate in the Philippine Smart City Summit 2018 on October 17-19 at the ABS-CBN Vertis Tent in Quezon City.
The Quezon City local government will host the summit which aims to initiate conversations with the country’s smart city elite and advocates on the appreciation, development and implementation of smart cities in the Philippines.
Quezon City, the largest city in Metro Manila, has been cited by the World Bank due to its transformation from a debt-ridden, disintegrating urban center into one of the richest and cleanest in the Philippines. Because of its success, the Asian Development Bank believes that other Philippine cities must follow Quezon City’s example.
City Mayors and information officers from highly-urbanized and independent component cities, national government agencies , international cooperative bodies, private sectors, academic institutions, community groups and relevant stakeholders will share their knowledge and good practices in e-governance and promote policies and programs that will advance digital capacity in public administration.
They will also facilitate civic involvement and establish cooperation towards developing smart cities in the country.
Focus of the summit is: ‘‘ Advocating for Smart Sustainable Cities through innovation and collaboration.
Included in the events are exhibits, cultural and technical tours, WeGo Meeting, Mayors’ Forum, Philippine Smart Cities 2018 Declara- tion of Support, formation of Smart City Urban Agenda and gala dinners.
Building upon the concept of the Smart Sustainable City 2.0 model, workshops in the events aim to introduce the smart city concepts and theories, present best practices, and build partnerships and collaborations towards enabling an environment suitable for implementing smart sustainable cities.
Speakers will share the affordable and sustainable services of smart governments developed on the basis of shared platforms and frameworks. Small and low-cost social innovations in developing countries will also be shared. They will also share the pioneering smart government practices of both developed and developing countries, with focus on the role of local governments in the implementation of smart government in terms of providing legal framework, coordinating stakeholders and engaging citizens.
