Racehorse owners cry foul over Metro Turf plans to shut down

Philippine Daily Inquirer - - SPORTS -

After taking huge losses for the year, the ownership of the Metro Turf racing club has informed the Philippine Racing Commission of intentions to shut down operations for three months starting Jan. 1.

In a Nov. 30 letter signed by chair Norberto Quisumbing, Metro Turf cited the proliferation of illegal online cockfighting and high racing taxes as two of the reasons why the country’s third racetrack has lost so much.

And as this transpired, several racehorse owners and breeders have raised a howl, having invested on the Batangas racetrack.
