A Piece of Paradise
Philippine Tatler Traveller heads south to the tropical island paradise of Amanpulo
N ature has a mysterious way of giving us her gifts—something we experienced firsthand at the shores of Amanpulo. As tranquil as our cover story images might be, Philippine Tatler Traveller actually faced many challenges from the weather on this particular trip. What we didn’t know then was that the glimpses of paradise we would be permitted when the weather cooperated were enough to provide us with the gorgeous photos that we share on these pages. Thanks to the spectacular natural beauty of the island and to the sunshine that Stephanie Zubiri- Crespi brought to each shot, you can't tell that our days on Amanpulo required us to maneuver between grey skies and rain!
Arriving at sunset, what would have been a traditional island welcome and seaside barbecue turned into an indoor feast which was no less bountiful nor dampened by the sudden downpour. We enjoyed the delicious roasted pig on a spit and the day’s fresh catch in the kilawin; the delightful dinner sent us off to our cosy casitas, ready for a restful sleep.
Of course, the stellar service of Amanpulo figured well into this success. The resort's amazing team, led by the extremely gracious GM Audeline Witjaksono, made our shoot an absolute pleasure. From indulging our every dining experience between takes, to keeping the floating Kawayan bar perfectly still for the cover shoot, Amanpulo went far and beyond to enable us to capture the entire experience in the best light. The lulls due to pockets of rain allowed us to take a side trip to the island of Manamoc—the heart and soul of Amanpulo—where we encountered their holistic vision realised: a community school where students could be trained in the highest degree of hospitality as they await employment at the resort.
It is a source of great pride for us that in the rarified world of ultra-luxury resorts, Amanpulo is recognised as among the best in the world. Sad as we were to leave that island paradise, we have memories sufficient to fill our hearts until our next return.
