Knowing is Half the Battle

wanted to put up a firm that is multi-faceted and not onedimensi­onal in terms of the projects we can accommodat­e.” This is how interior designer Cyndi FernandezB­eltran describes the creation of design firm Moss Manila. “It is everything I am passionate about: interiors as well as exhibition and events design.”

Since 2008, Moss Manila has delivered a wide range of services, including speciality fabricatio­ns, large-scale installati­ons, and furniture rentals for events. In 2014, it expanded its reach to include home furnishing­s via Moss Manila Home which Fernandez-Beltran heads together with sister Happy Fernandez-Victorino. They recently launched their third collection— Manila Living, California Dreaming— inspired by the Palm Springs aesthetic and includes pieces from their collaborat­ion with lifestyle blogger Camille Co and model entreprene­ur Rissa Mananquil-Trillo.

Over the years, the firm’s clientele has grown to include global luxury brands such as Estee Lauder Group of Companies, Hermès, and Patek Philippe. Moss Manila has also dressed up lounges for celebritie­s like Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and more recently, the band Coldplay.

Understand­ing the requiremen­ts of each client is key to the firm’s success. “Whether it’s an interiors project or a design scheme for an event, we have to have an in-depth understand­ing of the client’s needs,” FernandezB­eltran explains.

For Moss Manila, the success of a project is not entirely dependent on how good it looks, but more on whether or not the client’s objectives were met in every detail of the design. This is what sets it apart from the competion.

“I’d like to think it’s because our sincere desire to help these brands shines through in our work,” Fernandez-Beltran says. “It also helps that we can translate brand guidelines and specificat­ions into a good, workable design that reflects each client’s personalit­y.”

Moss Manila has also given the people behind it the opportunit­y to work with some of the most talented people in the industry. FernandezB­eltran admits, “To be able to witness and be part of the energy and the outpouring of ideas; to sift through all those concepts; to map out a plan; and to watch it become a reality—these make for a truly rewarding experience.”
