LABEL LOVER

-

Bonded by mutual boredom from their 9-to-5 jobs, Italian friends Loris Messina, 29, and Simone Rizzo, 28, started Sunnei in 2014. The duo came up with their brand name after listening to a song that had the word “sunny” as a refrain, and the joyful adjective has come to define much of their design aesthetic. Sunnei’s clothes are youthful and classic but laidback—the perfect embodiment of “Sprezzatura,” an Italian word meaning “studied carelessness” when applied to describing art and literature, and “effortlessly cool” in the context of fashion. In Rizzo and Messina’s collections, this translates into fuss-free silhouettes, experimental fabrics, and playful lines, all of which feel right at home in the modern gentleman’s wardrobe. This isn’t merely trendy fashion, mind: the designers have become known for using traditional Italian craftsmanship and manufacturers, paired with high-quality materials and some seriously sharp tailoring. Favourites from this season are drop-shouldered sportscoats and relaxed denim trousers—classics streamlined into modernity.
