Award-winning chef Margarita “Gaita” Forés recently added another feather in her proverbial cap as she received a knighthood under the Ordine della Stella d’Italia (Order of the Star of Italy) last 13 November 2018.
The title of Cavaliere was formally conferred upon Forés by Ambassador Giorgio Guglielmino in recognition of the way she has promoted Italian culture through its cuisine in the Philippines. “[Ms Forés] has developed a personal style throughout the years that combines the traditions of Italy—a country where she took her first steps in the culinary field—with Filipino elements and local organic products, becoming a reference point for the world of both Filipino and Italian cuisines,” Guglielmino said in his speech during the ceremony. Established in 1947 by then-President Enrico de Nicola and originally called Stella della Solidarietà Italiana (Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity), the distinction is awarded to foreigners who have made outstanding contributions in various fields to the culture of modern Italy.
