ello 2019! We want to start off the year on a positive note and wish everyone the best for the coming year. May all your dreams come to fruition this coming year!
So, what’s in store for Philippine Tatler? Despite the challenges the publishing industry is facing, we are still pretty bullish that print— especially exceptional print—will survive. We believe in the quality of our product and are optimistic that with our vision of giving you the best the country can offer as we stay true to the company’s DNA, we are here for the long haul.
Our cover lady is this year’s pick for our Asia’s Most Stylish—but she is truly more than that. I have known Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez for quite a while and she has always remained a class act; a “lady” in every sense of the word. Although the phrase “beautiful inside and out” has become cliché, it is the most apt description of her.
She has served as the congresswoman of her native city Ormoc in Leyte since 2010. During her watch, Ormoc bore the brunt of supertyphoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan), one of the strongest tropical typhoons on record. The havoc it created was likened to a nuclear bomb destroying lives and property. Lucy and her husband, Mayor Richard Gomez, have made it their mission to rebuild what has been lost; and today, Ormoc is on its road to recovery.
The rehabilitation plan includes the construction of diversion roads and the rebuilding of schools with eco-friendly classrooms. “The area I represent is a small speck on the map, but I see it as a diamond in the rough simply waiting to shine because there is so much potential,” Lucy says.
In this issue, we present her with the other Most Stylish Ladies from the region, photographed at the iconic Morpheus Hotel in Macau. We also have a forum on entrepreneurship, and we take you to Chile, 2019’s must go-to destination, and this year’s must-do for adventurers: a train ride on the Trans-Siberian railway.
