As mandated by Republic Act No. 7743, “An Act Providing for the Establishment of Congressional, City and Municipal Libraries and Barangay Reading Centers Throughout the Philippines, Appropriating the Necessary Funds Therefor and for Other Purposes”, the NLP, as the lead implementer of this Act and as the central node of the public library system in the country, works unwaveringly with the local government units (LGUs) to continually develop the library programs and services in their localities.
In R.A. No. 7743, the responsibilities of NLP to its affiliated public libraries are to provide library resources and training to librarians, library in-charge, and library staff. NLP extends its efforts by partnering and collaborating with library associations, non-government organizations (NGOs), national government agencies (NGAs), among others to further support public libraries nationwide, and to develop and cascade programs and services that are relevant and helpful in the communities.
Some of the NLP’s initiatives, projects, partners, and collaborators, factors that affect those initiatives and projects, and valuable outcomes and impacts on public libraries if given the necessary support from their local chief executives (LCEs) are discussed.
