EMBRACING CHANGES: REDESIGNING LIBRARY SPACES

Library spaces are of great impact to the academic performance of students and libraries are now transforming traditional spaces into enhanced learning environments, often competing with demands for space within the academic setting.
The researcher presents the recent redesigning and construction of the library spaces that will add value to users' educational and research experiences in the College of Nursing at University of the Philippines Manila. In this connection, this paper aims to help librarians and leaders to visualize students' use of library spaces in this type of academic library setting. Moreover, the paper provides better understanding in executing changes in the layout and space design that fit the needs of library users.
The researcher used a descriptive survey method to identify the changing needs of library users and the administration's preferences regarding library spaces. At the end of the session, librarians' experiences and challenging roles before and after the construction of the library are revealed. Keywords: academic libraries; library spaces
