PLAI Congress 2018 Program - - CONTENT -

Warm greetings to all the members of our beloved PLAI!

The year 2018 brings with it a few milestones in the history of PLAI. It has seen an increase in the number of members becoming fully aware of what PLAI is all about and partaking in its activities and programs. It was able to ink international agreements with ASEAN counterparts in Thailand and Myanmar, paving the way to realizing this year’s PLAI Congress theme: “Connected Actions, Collective Vision: Libraries Transforming Society”.

As we try to connect not only locally but internationally, we are able to create a vision for PLAI—that is to transform our society into being more responsive, culturally aware, and solid. PLAI, being the mother organization of librarians in the country, advocates connection between and among its members, as well as the society that they serve. As PLAI members and Filipino librarians, it is through our connected actions that transformation is permeated into our society. There is a Tagalog saying that goes, “Ang sangang malayo sa puno ay hindi magkakaroon ng magandang bunga.” Indeed, as we try to connect with one another, we make our bonds stronger, and as we make PLAI a stronger organization, we produce members who will serve humanity with assiduousness and empathy.

On the occasions of the PLAI National Congress 2018 and the 84th National Book Week, I commend the Conference Committee and the National Book Week Committee for working very hard for the success of these celebrations. I would also like to thank the members of the National Board of Trustees for patiently sharing their insights and efforts. My profound gratitude also goes to the sponsors, speakers, participants, and all other stakeholders who shared their time in joining this year’s PLAI National Congress and National Book Week Celebration.

Mabuhay ang PLAI!

MICHAEL A. PINTO, RL President Philippine Librarians Association, Inc.
