The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc.
(PLAI), cognizant of its mission of nurturing and promoting all libraries in the country and fostering professional growth and performance of its members, believes that librarians and information professionals, along with libraries, archives, and museums, have vital roles to play in national development and in contributing to laying the foundation for inclusive growth, high-trust society, and a globally competitive knowledge economy.
This year’s PLAI Congress with the theme Connected Actions, Collective Vision: Libraries Transforming Society, envisions to lead the country’s library community in a collective call to connected actions towards transforming society. Libraries have that innate capacity to shape and influence communities, thereby contributing to national development. The Congress is designed in such a way that it will showcase and communicate such that, that through concerted and united efforts, libraries can positively affect and change societies.
It is delightful that the 2018 Congress is held in the National Capital Region - the political, economic, social, cultural, and educational seat of the Philippines. The venue is specifically held in Quezon City, the City of Stars, the largest city of Metropolitan Manila. The attendees of the Congress will surely relish the numerous and diverse choices that Quezon City offers.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Quezon City Local Government and the Quezon City Public Library, the NCCA-NCLIS, the J. Amado Araneta Foundation, our esteemed speakers, and all those who came, participated, supported, and partnered with PLAI. To the NCR Librarians Council and the NCR Volunteers, thank you so much for your passion, dedication, and hardwork, in realizing the PLAI Congress 2018. To the PLAI National Board of Trustees and all the regional councils, my sincerest appreciation to you all.
Truly, we are united in and committed to advancing our profession. Mabuhay ang PLAI! Mabuhay ang mga laybraryan ng bayan! RHEA ROWENA U. APOLINARIO , RL PLAI Executive Vice-President and Conference Chair
