Professional Regulatory Board for Librarians Email address: Abstract

Career progression can mean going up the ladder of positions in the same library or moving to another position in the same library or to another library with or without an initial increase in pay. A career plan, accompanied by hard work, commitment, loyalty, flexibility to change, and continuing professional development activities designed to reach one’s goal, among others, will enable a librarian to progress and seize opportunities for advancement when they arise. This implies that the librarian must have ambition and direction coupled with achievement and qualifications needed by the position he/she aims for. In the Philippines, qualifications are defined alongside the Philippine Qualifications Framework, the licensure examination, the IRR, and the Operational Guidelines for Continuing Professional Development and the National Competency-Based Standards for Filipino Librarians. Keywords: career progression; career development; librarians
