University of the Philippines Diliman Email address: ny[email protected] Abstract

Every library is the center of its community—a center where ideas, knowledge, and talents are shared. In its role as the heart of UP, the University Library Diliman must be seen by the UP community as a symbol of academic freedom and, most importantly, a place where they can express themselves freely. The library holding an event as an avenue for a night of freedom of expression for its community is one initiative towards that end. This presentation discusses how to organize a valuable platform for community engagement initiated by the Information Services and Instruction Section (ISAIS) of the UP Diliman University Library in collaboration with the UP School of Library and Information Studies LIS 181 (Field Assignment) Class of 2nd Semester, A.Y. 2017-2018. The presentation takes you behind the scenes to explore the whole experience from conceptualization to the actual event. Keywords: library marketing; library promotions; academic freedom; freedom of expression
