The role of libraries and librarianship has typically lagged behind new technologies. For example, MARC, Z39.50, and OpenURL are still in use today--but is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. These standards still have value, but as the library evolves, new data systems are needed to be able to manage legacy data, as well as current and developing standards.

This presentation is about the advancements in Alma and how libraries can: (1) manage print, electronic, and digital resources, and; (2) understand the life cycle of electronic resources from acquisition to search to access on a provider platform.

Keywords: libraries; data systems; metadata standards; metadata management
