Tables were decorated with wild tree branches and exotic flora, while the ceiling was wrapped in black tulle that swirled down to almost right above our heads. Surreal, we know, heightened by the male models, clad only in Bench Body underwear, that greeted guests at the entrance. Snapchat, at that point, was off the hook.
The annual Red Charity Gala probably has one of the city’s most informal auctions. Hosted by co-chairwomen Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Kaye Tiñga, with Tim Yap by their side come bidding time, the success of the auction was largely due to the trio knowing everyone in the room (even in the dark). After raising more than P1 million over dinner, it was time for the show.
The interiors spoke a lot about this year’s designer, London-based Lesley Mobo. His usual dark and romantic aesthetic took a turn for ’80s glam as he showed dresses and suits that sparkled in an excess of glitter, gilded appliqués and metallic sheen. But the last few looks were classically Lesley: a sea of ruffled tulle and lace. It was a beautiful reverie, one we’d like to dream of again for charity’s sake.
