Index crimes in Negocc dropped by 69% in 8 months

INDEX crimes in Negros Occidental decreased by 68.6 percent from January to August this year, records from Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) showed.

Index crimes include theft, physical injuries, robbery, rape, motornappi­ng, murder, homicide, carnapping, and cattle rustling.

Senior Inspector Aireen Cordua, public informatio­n officer of Nocppo, said 821 incidents were recorded in 2018 compared to last year’s 2,615 cases.

Non-index crimes or accidents resulting in homicide, physical injuries, and damage to property decreased by 58.22 percent or 3,122 cases from 5,362 cases in 2017 to 2,240 incidents this year.

Other non-index crimes have dropped by 77.14 percent or 945 cases from 1,225 cases last year to 280 incidents this year.

Overall, criminal incidents in the province have reduced by 61.62 percent or 4,916 cases from 7,977 incidents last year to 3,061 cases this year.

The average monthly crime rate has also reduced by 61.62 percent.

The crime clearance efficiency - those cases wherein suspects were identified and were charged but were not arrested - has increased by 10.34 percent while crime solution efficiency, those cases wherein suspects were arrested and charged, has also increased by 5.32 percent./gym
