Farmer shot dead

-

A FARMER was shot to death by two unidentified men at Barangay Bandila in Toboso, Negros Occidental Wednesday, October 25.

Police identified the fatality as Marino Arnado, 58, of the said village.

Chief Inspector Joery Puerto, town police chief, said the victim was on his way to his farm at 7 a.m. when two assailants waylaid and fired at him several times.

“He was shot at close range,” he added. Then the gunmen escaped on foot.

Police recovered from the scene two fired bullets of a shotgun, and four fired bullets of .45 caliber pistol.

Puerto said the victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. He will be subjected for post-mortem examination.

Puerto said they have yet to determine the motive of the killing but it could be personal.

“We learned that he (victim) has several complaints from his neighbors and residents in the village. We’re trying to verify it with the barangay officials,” Puerto said.

We do not know yet the details about the complaints against him, he added.

We are waiting for witnesses to come out to testify in the incident. Maybe, they are somehow hesitating because of fear, Puerto said.

Although the village is identified as rebel-infested, Puerto said they are not tagging the rebels behind Arnado’s death.
