Inspection at Old Agumod Creek in Banago pushed
THE Bacolod City Council is urging concerned agencies to immediately conduct an ocular inspection at the Old Agumod Creek in Purok Makawiwili, Barangay Banago.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Renecito Novero, stated that it required the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), Office of the Building Official (OBO), City Legal Office (CLO), Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA) as well as the Environment and Natural Resources Office (Enro), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (Denr)-negros Occidental, and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to submit report and recommendations to the City Council 45 days from receipt of the resolution.
Novero, chairperson of the City Council committee on urban poor, housing and resettlement, said the residents of the Old Agumod Creek in Barangay Banago sought the assistance of the City Council to resolve their long-standing problem with their right of way.
On September 3, Novero along with the affected residents, City Administrator John Orola, CLO, Barangay Banago officials, ENRO and representatives of Proxima Centauri conducted a public hearing the Bacolod Government Center.
Novero said they discussed whether or not the area at the Old Agumod Creek is considered a danger zone or the perimeter wall built around the property of Proxima Cantauri is encroaching public land, especially the one constructed atop the riprap and the one leading to Purok Langis.
He said it was also discussed if the entire property enclosed within the perimeter wall is owned by Proxima Centauri.
On October 24, Novero submitted its committee report to the City Council with a recommendation that this matter needs the skills and knowledge of certain government agencies such as CEO, OBO, CLO, Enro, DENR-6, BHA and DPWH.
“It was recommended that these agencies should conduct an ocular inspection on the site to settle the above-mentioned matters in contention,” Novero said.*
