Village removes illegal structures in streets

- BY CARLA N. CAÑET

THE officials of Barangay Granada in Bacolod City recently removed the illegal structures occupying the side streets of Pedro Aguilar up to the area near a subdivision in the said village.

Punong Barangay Alfredo Talimodao Jr. said they have removed the market stalls to encourage the vendors to sell inside the public market which is located near the Barangay Hall and jeepney terminal.

He said it is high time that the vendors should occupy the spaces inside the public market because it is already causing a traffic jam and misuse of the streets due to the presence of the vendors.

There were those who resisted the idea but the decision of the barangay was a result of a series of dialogue with the affected vendors.

The City Legal Enforcement Team, the barangay tanods, the personnel of Barangay Granada Bureau of Fire sub-station and the Police Station 5 have assisted the barangay in the demolition of the illegal structures.

They started to clean the area by flashing water at the drainage which was already clogged by market wastes.

The said street will be closed for two to three weeks so they can restore orderliness and cleanliness in the said area.

The demolition team will still come back as there were stores that used steel trusses to support their roofs.

The barangay will see to it that the affected vendors will be accommodated to sell inside the public market.

“We will occupy all the available spaces inside the public markets,” Talimodao said.*
