A MAN died while two others were injured in separate shooting incidents in the cities of Bacolod and Escalante, Negros Occidental.

On November 6, Segundino De Oro Jr., 40, of Escalante City was sitting in front of a sari-sari store at Barangay Balintawak when an unidentified assailant, who was covering his face with a handkerchief, fired at him twice at close range and fled.

De Oro sustained gunshot wounds on his face. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police recovered from the scene two fired cartridges of .45 caliber.

De Oro has previous cases on illegal possession of firearms and explosives, robbery, carnapping, and was allegedly involved in illegal drugs and series of robbery hold-up in the city, police records showed.

Police have yet to determine the motive.

In Bacolod City, a misunderstanding on the parking space of a business establishment triggered an armed encounter between a tricycle driver and a security guard at B.S. Aquino Drive in Barangay Villamonte past 7 a.m. yesterday.

Senior Inspector Rey Tolosa Jr., head of Police Station 4, identified the victims as tricycle driver Gerry Nemenzo, 49, of the said village; and Jose Postrano, 56, a native of Sipalay City but is temporarily staying in Mandalagan village while working as a security guard in Bacolod.

Tolosa said Nemenzo confronted Postrano about the issue on the parking space when he saw the latter yesterday.

Postrano has been telling Nemenzo to refrain from parking his tricycle at the parking area of the establishment because it is only intended for the customers. But it made Nemenzo angry, Tolosa said.

Nemenzo allegedly challenged Postrano into a fight but the latter resisted.

Nemenzo then shot him and the latter retaliated. A brief chase followed.

Postrano was able to get Nemenzo’s firearm and struck him on the head.

Nemenzo sustained two gunshot wounds and was brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Postrano sustained three gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Doctor’s Hospital.

Police recovered from the scene some fired cartridges of .38 caliber service firearm of Postrano and Nemenzo’s .45 caliber pistol.

Tolosa said they will ask for a copy of a closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage from a nearby establishment to check who started the fight.

“We will review the CCTV to determine the charges to be filed but he said that Nemenzo will also be charged for illegal possession of firearm.*
