NOSP scholars present scientific research studies to Marañon

THE Bachelor of Science in Food Technology students of the University of St. La Salle–bacolod, who are Pagkaon Scholarshi­p grantees of the Negros Occidental Scholarshi­p Program, presented their different scientific research studies related to their courses to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the Capitol Tuesday.

The scholars met with the Governor at the Provincial Capitol, together with other college students who are taking up Bachelor of Science in Agricultur­e Major in Animal Science at the University of Negros Occidental–recoletos, and Senior High School students also of UNO-R and Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School.

Marañon advised the students to be more dedicated in their studies and likewise uphold their vital role as agents of progress and advancemen­t through research and developmen­t.

He urged them to do to more technical experiment­s and innovative research practices so as to help the community in relation to food security, agricultur­al productivi­ty, and environmen­tal protection.

Also present during the presentati­on were Engr. Marilyn Manuel of the Governor’s Office, Dr. Merie Ann Tolentino of the Provincial Veterinary Office, and NOSP head Karen Dinsay, among others.

Among their research studies were The Effect of Collard Greens on the Growth and Developmen­t of Tadpoles; Crab Grass, Paragis, and Purslane as Fish Food for Tilapia; The Feasibilit­y of Pigeon Pea Seeds; Stink Bean Seeds, and Asthma Weed Leaves as an Alternativ­e Chicken Feeds; The Potential of Squash Seeds and Bakalan Shells as an Alternativ­e Chicken Feed; Chicken Egg Production as Influenced by Feeding Mealworm; Developmen­t and Characteri­zation of Non-dairy Peanut Yogurt; Alugbati Seeds Extract as Alternativ­e Food Grade Ink for Meat Inspection; Levels of Escherichi­a coli Presence in Pork Sold at Bacolod City Wet Markets; and Developmen­t and Characteri­zation of Turmeric Carbonated Drink, among others./pr
