NOSP scholars present scientific research studies to Marañon
THE Bachelor of Science in Food Technology students of the University of St. La Salle–bacolod, who are Pagkaon Scholarship grantees of the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program, presented their different scientific research studies related to their courses to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the Capitol Tuesday.
The scholars met with the Governor at the Provincial Capitol, together with other college students who are taking up Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Major in Animal Science at the University of Negros Occidental–recoletos, and Senior High School students also of UNO-R and Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School.
Marañon advised the students to be more dedicated in their studies and likewise uphold their vital role as agents of progress and advancement through research and development.
He urged them to do to more technical experiments and innovative research practices so as to help the community in relation to food security, agricultural productivity, and environmental protection.
Also present during the presentation were Engr. Marilyn Manuel of the Governor’s Office, Dr. Merie Ann Tolentino of the Provincial Veterinary Office, and NOSP head Karen Dinsay, among others.
Among their research studies were The Effect of Collard Greens on the Growth and Development of Tadpoles; Crab Grass, Paragis, and Purslane as Fish Food for Tilapia; The Feasibility of Pigeon Pea Seeds; Stink Bean Seeds, and Asthma Weed Leaves as an Alternative Chicken Feeds; The Potential of Squash Seeds and Bakalan Shells as an Alternative Chicken Feed; Chicken Egg Production as Influenced by Feeding Mealworm; Development and Characterization of Non-dairy Peanut Yogurt; Alugbati Seeds Extract as Alternative Food Grade Ink for Meat Inspection; Levels of Escherichia coli Presence in Pork Sold at Bacolod City Wet Markets; and Development and Characterization of Turmeric Carbonated Drink, among others./pr
