Awarding of clean, green winners set today

THE City Government of Bacolod will announce today the winning barangays that joined the city’s Search for the Cleanest, Greenest, and Most Well-managed Solid Waste Management (SWM) program.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperso­n of the City Council committee on environmen­t and ecology, said yesterday all the 61 barangays joined the program as part of their clean and green program.

The awarding ceremony will be held at the Masskara Hall of the Bacolod Government Center at 10 a.m. which will be attended by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, members of the City Council and the barangay officials.

For the Rural Barangay category, the first placer will receive P350,000 worth of projects; second, P250,000 worth of projects; third, P200,000 worth of projects; fourth, P150,000 worth of projects; fifth, P100,000 worth of projects; and 10 consolatio­n prizes of P20,000 worth of projects each.

For the Urban Barangay category, the first placer will receive P300,000 worth of projects; second, P200,000 worth of projects; third, P150,000 worth of projects; fourth, P100,000 worth of projects; fifth, P50,000 worth of projects; and 30 consolatio­n prizes of P15,000 worth of projects each.

Rojas said the first evaluation was conducted on August 20 and September 7 followed by the second evaluation on October 1 to 19.

“We launched this in March and it’s very positive that all the barangays joined the clean and green program, however, during the evaluation, there were few barangays that failed to meet the criteria for lack of budget,” she said.

Rojas vowed to

continue this program in 2019 to sustain the clean and green program in various barangays.

“We commend the effort of the barangay officials to maintain the cleanlines­s within their areas of jurisdicti­on and we will launch another clean and green program in 2019,” Rojas said./map
