‘24 Hours of Reality’ features Negrense climate activist

NEGRENSE climate activist Brother Jaazeal Jakosalem, who is from San Carlos City, will be featured at the global broadcast of “24 Hours of Reality. ”

Hosted by The Climate Reality Project and its founder, former U.S. vice president Al Gore, “24 Hours of Reality” is a day of eye-opening stories and compelling conversati­ons about the climate crisis and how to solve it.

It will be broadcaste­d live to millions of viewers around the world on December 3 and 4 via https://www.24hoursofr­eality.org.

The Philippine segment dubbed “A Storm of Activism” will be on the Hour 6 of the broadcast showing in the country on December 4 at 2 a.m.

This segment underscore­s the success story of the local struggle related to the proposed coal-fired power plant in Cebu City, which was collective­ly opposed by local officials, profession­als, artists, grassroots communitie­s, church-people, and organizati­ons like Greenpeace, Pusyon Kinaiyahan, Pmcjsanlak­as, and Dakila, among others.

Jakosalem, a Green Ring Awardee of The Climate Reality Project and a founding member of Pusyon Kinaiyahan, narrates the beginnings of the local environmen­tal movement in Cebu.

He will talk on the movement’s global impact and the importance of amplifying the collective message from across platforms - grassroots education, grounded activism and shared the struggle.

Jakosalem is now based in Madrid, Spain working in the ARCORES Internatio­nal network, but was assigned in Bacolod City for nine years.

He was actively opposing the ethanol plant and one of the advisers of anticoal movement in Negros.

Being active in the environmen­tal movement and struggles in the Philippine­s, Jakosalem has been helping and assisting church-people and communitie­s on ecological issues and practical solutions related to climate change, developmen­t and industrial aggression.

Moreover, during the annual global broadcast, Gore will also be joined by an all-star line-up of artists, other thought leaders, and scientists, among others.

This year’s theme is “Protect Our Planet, Protect Ourselves.”

The broadcast also features grassroots actions, local initiative­s of activists, organizati­ons and ordinary citizens taking steps in solving the climate crisis.

“We’ll travel across the Earth for 24 hours to learn more about how fossil fuels and climate change are creating unique health risks that threaten the wellness of families and communitie­s all over the world,” the Climate Reality Project said.

Vulnerable to typhoons and having already suffered devastatin­g health impacts of the climate crisis, Filipinos are actively combatting the fossil fuel industry, the organizati­on said.

The broadcast will also include a live presentati­on by Gore, interviews with health care officials, and a look at the battle to shut down a proposed new coalfired power plant, it added./epn
