Remove campaign materials in undesignated areas, bets told

BACOLOD City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-sia urged all the candidates for the May 13 elections to remove their tarpaulins in the areas which are not designated by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Majarucon-sia said yesterday they will start their monitoring at the beginning of the election period on January 13.

“I would like to remind, especially the national candidates’ coordinators, to remove their oversize tarpaulins to avoid violations on the start of campaign period on February 12,” she said.

Majarucon-sia also reminded the local candidates to remove their tarpaulins in the areas which are not designated by Comelec to avoid violations on the start of the campaign period.

Comelec already identified the designated poster areas in various barangays.

Majarucon-sia said tarpaulins posted on trees and electrical posts are also in violation of campaign rules, adding that campaign materials should not exceed two feet by three feet.

All the candidates should be mindful of the start of the campaign period and remove all their oversize tarpaulins, otherwise, they will be violating the campaign rules, she added.

Meanwhile, the Comelec in Bacolod City needs to hire more than 100 technical support staff to serve in the May 13 elections.

As of the moment, they have enough public school teachers to serve on election day, but they still need poll workers to serve as technical support staff of Comelec, Majarucon-sia said.

“This election we have enough members of Electoral Board and Barangay Boards of Canvassers to serve, and our problem now is the hiring of the technical support staff to help us in relation on the operation of the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines,” she said.

The interested applicants should visit the Comelec office to fill out the application form.

“We encourage our youth or students who are computer literate to apply in our office to serve on Election Day,” Majaruconsia said.

She said the technical support staff will receive about P6,000.

“Aside from Bacolod, some cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental also need to hire more technical support staff for the May 13 elections,” she added.*
