Chris Tiu retires from basketball

-

EVERYONE saw it coming, but it was still a shock nonetheless.

After playing six seasons for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Chris Tiu has confirmed his retirement from the PBA.

“My heartfelt gratitude to every person who has been part of my basketball journey!! Most especially to our Lord who makes all things possible. It’s now time to move on. My heart is full. #17 signing off,” the 33-year-old guard wrote on his official Twitter account.

The decorated UAAP star from Ateneo de Manila University was picked seventh overall in the 2012 PBA Draft

after a successful tenure with the original Gilas squad in 2010.

Although he never made it to an All-star team, Tiu is a one-time PBA champion (Commissioner’s Cup 2016), a member of the 2013 PBA All-rookie Team, and a Three-point champion (2013 PBA All-star weekend).

In his PBA swan song against the NLEX Road Warriors last November, Tiu notched a career best 30 markers on 40 percent shooting from the field.

Although ROS would have very much loved to retain the services of the sweetshooting playmaker, coach Caloy Garcia would most likely delegate Tiu’s minutes to the team’s eight overall pick in 2018 draft, Jjay Alejandro.

Last week, Ginebra’s Jett Manuel also announced that he will be hanging up his sneakers after just one season./foxsports.ph
