DTI stresses importance of e-commerce among MSMES

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Occidental stressed the importance of electronic commerce (ecommerce) among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMES) in the province.

Rachel Nufable, chief trade and industry development specialist of Dtinegros Occidental, said local entrepreneurs are currently under the era of connectivity wherein they need to be “connected” with their suppliers and markets.

Nufable said there is a need of MSMES to be updated as to what is the “in” thing in making connections with everyone.

“Even we are at home, workplace or mobile we just have to be connected and updated to reach our people faster and easier,” she added.

Four Dti-assisted MSMES in the province recently participated in the digitalization initiative of a telecommunication company in Bacolod City.

Artisan Island Crafts, M’con Pieces, Yssa’s Crafts and Ruby Fashion, which included in DTI’S priority sectors, highlighted their products through demonstration and selling.

Nufable said it is good that there companies doing the initiative which forms part of their efforts to market their products and services, and the agency welcomes more organizations for other digitalization boost activities.

With their needs to do e-commerce marketing, Nufable said MSMES need to have a good platform and technology for them to make their products and services more accessible to clients.

“We continue to encourage MSMES to go global by going digital. Or else, they will be left behind,” she said, adding that the market is very competitive, many products are coming in, so there’s a need to also upgrade their services not just through traditional trade fairs and showrooms./epn
