Law enforcers urged to probe alleged drug protector list

- BY MERLINDA A. PEDROSA

“IT’S very damaging.” This was the reaction of Bacolod City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran after three members of the City Council were included in the alleged narco-list which circulated on the social media over the weekend.

The personalities were alleged as drug protectors in Negros Occidental and sub- ject for neutralization.

Also included in the lists were mayors, congressman, lawyers, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), and some local media personalities.

Familiaran said the PNP, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) should validate this report and should clear the names of the persons mentioned in the list.

“It’s a very damaging report and we do not know the source of the alleged list. Our law enforcement agencies should also make their own statement to clear this issue,” he said.

He added the law enforcement agencies should also determine the person behind the circulation of this list.

Familiaran noted that the three councilors could also file a case against the person behind the circulation of the alleged list.

He said social media users should be responsible for posting and sharing the news because not all posted on the internet are true and correct.

“We should avoid spreading fake news,” he said.*
