Authorities clear Sum-ag road from congestion

SOME law enforcement agencies initiated an experimental clearing of roads to decongest traffic along Sum-ag and Punta Taytay villages in Bacolod City Monday, February 11.

Chief Inspector Ariel Pico, public information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said these agencies include the Department of Works and Highways (DPWH), City Legal Office (CLO), Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and local government unit of Bacolod.

The clearing started from Sum-ag to Punta Taytay to establish a traffic discipline zone, Pico said.

The experiment will last for 15 days, he added.

Pico said the LTO has received constant complaints about the traffic congestion in Sum-ag village which prompted them to coordinate with other agencies to conduct clearing and assess the traffic flow.

We will not allow illegal parking, Pico said.

They are eyeing to implement bike lanes and establish signages in designated areas as well as placing pedestrian lanes properly by coordinating with the barangay, he added.

“We will observe for a while and make the necessary measures to address the problem,” he said.

They will also do the same in the areas of Burgos, Mansilingan and Libertad, he added.*
