Vendors reactivate Amva task force

- BY MERLINDA A. PEDROSA

THE Amelia Mercedez Vendors Association (Amva) in Libertad Public Market in Bacolod City reactivated the Amva Task Force to monitor the illegal vendors in the area.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, head of the market coordinating and monitoring task force, said yesterday the task force will be led by its president, Rommel Real.

Aside from the City Legal Office (CLO) Enforcement Unit, Pineda said the task force was also tasked to regulate the vendors along Libertad public market.

He said the city government already demolished the illegal structures in the area to maintain the cleanliness as well as to ensure the smooth flow of the traffic in Libertad.

“We already cleared the Amelia Avenue, Mercedez Street, Mabini Street and Hernaez Street,” he added.

Pineda noted that from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight, there will be no vending outside the Libertad public market or three meters from the gutter.

He said they will continue the clearing operations in the areas of Burgos and Central public markets this week.

Pineda will hold a meeting with the vendors for the implementation of some changes in the whole areas of public markets.

“We will do this with the participation of the barangay officials to address the concern of the vendors and the implementation of waste segregation,” he said.

For his part, Real said all their members were also cooperative, but there were some transient vendors insisted to sell in the roads.

“We tried to explain it to them, but there were some refused to follow the order. We need the cooperation of everybody,” he said.

He added the task force was conducting a roving patrol during night time to regulate the transient vendors in the area.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier ordered the CLO enforcement unit to continue the clearing operations, removal of illegal structures in streets as well as in riverbanks.

City Administrator John Orola earlier said they also sent legal notices to the affected families so that they will have time to prepare or remove the illegal structures occupying the roads or those who are live in danger zones.

He said they already removed the illegal structures in Barangay 16.*
