- BY MERLINDA A. PEDROSA

THE City Government of Bacolod reactivated the Bacolod Local sexually transmitted infection (STI)/ human immunodeficiency virus (Hiv)/acquired ima mune deficiency syndrome (Aids) Council following the reported increase of the said cases in the city recently.

City Health Officer Ma. Carmela Gensoli, vice chairperson of the council, said yesterday they need to monitor the STI/HIV/AIDS cases in Bacolod.

“We need to tap all the agencies because we cannot do this alone. We need the help and cooperation of everybody,” she said.

CHO records showed that from January to November 2018, Bacolod has a total of 93 STI/HIV/AIDS cases.

Gensoli said they are also planning to orient the members of the council which include the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), among others, to address this problem.

“It’s already alarming so we need the help of everybody,” she said.

Leonardia earlier said the STI/HIV/AIDS is a worldwide concern and phenomenon.

“Bacolod should have preventive measures to give attention to these problems. This is a step towards preventing the widespread of these diseases in Bacolod and of course, it comes with an effort on our part to disseminate the information,” he said.

He added that City Ordinance No. 468, Series of 2008, created the Bacolod Local STI/HIV/ Aids Council which will help ensure efficient and effective delivery of the programs and shall serve as the advisory monitoring board of the project.*
