Expert to give talk on allergic rhinosinus­itis in Bacolod City

ONE of the country’s experts in the field of rhinology, Dr. Benjamin Campomanes, along with other pulmonary specialist­s will talk on allergic rhinosinus­itis at Corazon Locsin Monteliban­o Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City on April 6.

His talk will focus on “Current Trends in Pediatric and Adult Allergic Rhinosinus­itis.”

Campomanes, who is the senior vice president and head of Medical Practice Group and medical director of St. Luke’s Hospital in Quezon City, will also perform a surgical procedure that will be viewed live by attendees in the hospital’s West Tower operating room.

Campomanes is the former chairman of the Department of Otorhinola­ryngology-head and Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS) Department of the said institutio­n, as well as the former Rhinology Secfrom tion head of East Avenue Medical Center.

He was also the past president of two prestigiou­s groups, the Philippine Academy of Rhinology and ASEAN Rhinologic Society.

The whole day activity is being organized by CLMMRH’S ORL-HNS Department and will include case presentati­ons, lectures, and an open forum to address issues of the disease and forms part of the 1st Rhinology Post-graduate course the department offers.

Sneezing, blocked nose, itchy eyes and throat are common complaints during consults of both pediatric and adult population.

According to the National Nutrition and Health Survey in 2008, allergic rhinitis is an allergic reaction that affects two out of 10 Filipino adults.

It is a burdensome disease that affects patient of all ages, restrictin­g the daily activities of those who have the condition.

Other speakers include Dr. Rafaelito Salvador, an immuno-allergolog­y specialist and the chairman of Internal Medicine department of CLMMRH, who will talk on the approach of allergic rhinosinus­itis in adult patients.

Dr. Mary Johnson Cabaluna, a specialist in pediatric allergy and clinical immunology and the chairman of the Pediatric department of CLMMRH, will cover the management of allergic rhinosinus­itis in the pediatric population.

While, Dr. Roberto Puerta, a pediatric pulmonolog­ist, will speak on the allergy components of the respirator­y system.

“The course is open to everyone who is interested specialist­s, general practition­ers, and residents in trainings. Members of the public who would also like to get involve are also welcome,” ORL-HNS Department chief resident Dr. Wenrol Espinosa said.

A registrati­on fee of P1,000, an early bird rate until March 15, will cover three meals, a certificat­e of attendance and Continuing Profession­al Developmen­t (CPD) units for the medical profession.
