- BY CARLA N. CAÑET

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (Bir)region 12 targets to collect P14.3 billion for 2019, which is P1.1 billion higher than its collection target of P13.2 billion last year.

BIR-12, which is based in Bacolod City, covers four Revenue District Offices (RDOS) in three provinces.

In Negros Occidental, these include the RDO 76 in Victorias City, RDO 77 in Bacolod City, and RDO 78 in Binalbagan town. RDO 79 covers Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental and the province of Siquijor.

Its regional director Aynie Madajoyan - Dizon, who spoke at the launching of the agency's tax campaign logo and slogan for this year at BIR Region 12 Function Hall in Bacolod City yesterday, urged fellow officials and employees to work hard in increasing their collections this year.

Madajoyan - Dizon said of the collection target in 2018, BIR Region 12’s accomplishment was almost P9.3 million only, or a deficit of about P3.9 million.

In the national level, the agency’s target for this year is P2.33 trillion.

“Though higher, we remain optimistic to hit the collection target this year,” she said, adding that “we just have to do our best.”

This year’s campaign slogan is “Para sa inyo. Maging tapat tayo. Serbisyong tapat, buwis na sapat.”

Conceptualized by multi-awarded designer Kenneth Cobonpue, the logo consists a heart-shaped blue and red shaking hands with three yellow rays of the sun at the center.

According to the BIR, the logo emphasizes the rendering of excellent, faithful, sincere and dedicated service to the tax payer.

The agency believes excellent service would encourage the public to regularly and properly their taxes.

The heart symbolizes “katapatan” particularly in meeting obligations which can be achieved through collaboration between the BIR and taxpayers.

The hand shaking gesture, on the other hand, connects and brings the BIR and taxpayers together in responding the callfor action.

The rising sun depicts progress and improvement in the lives of the Filipinos that can be achieved through right collection and payment of taxes, which will fuel government services and projects.

Aside from the logo and slogan, BIR-12 also launched the jingle composed by Filipino singer Lito Camo.

Entitled “Para sa Inyo,” the jingle conveys the same messages depicted in the new logo and slogan.

Moreover, Madajoyan Dizon said 2019 is an exciting year not just because of their high target, but also of the new developments, projects and programs implemented by the management for the employees.

Madajoyan - Dizon said the last tranche of salary increase is already in the pipeline, which they hope to be given on time.

With this development, the regional director urged fellow officials and employees to stay humble and dedicated to their work.

“The BIR takes charge of 70 percent of the national collection. Without us, it would be difficult for the government to finance the projects for the people,” she said, adding that "we just have to be proud that we are working in this agency.”*
