‘No vending’ policy in front of Burgos public market

- BY MERLINDA A. PEDROSA

THE City Government of Bacolod is now implementing the “no vending” policy in front of the Burgos public market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bacolod City Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, head of the market coordinating and monitoring task force, said they held a meeting with the market vendors last week and most of them agreed with the policy.

He said the Burgos Street will be a “no parking” area as it will only cater to the loading and unloading of goods or products of market stall owners.

“The Burgos Street is a national road so we need to remove the illegal structures to address the traffic congestion as well as to maintain the cleanliness in

the area,” he added.

Pineda said the officials of market vendors association and the barangay were tasked to regulate and monitor the illegal vendors at the Burgos public market.

He pointed out it’s the responsibility of association to monitor their members inside and outside the market. “They should police their rank to maintain the cleanliness of the market,” Pineda said.

Pineda also reminded the vendors to segregate their wastes and wait for the garbage collection from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Last week, the city government also implemented the “no vending” policy from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. in the Libertad public market.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier ordered the City Legal Office Enforcement Unit to continue the clearing operations and removal of illegal structures in streets as well as in riverbanks.*
