It’s more fun and exciting to reminisce the high school days at the Emiliano Lizares National High School (ELNHS) in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City.

ELNHS celebrated its 28th Grand Alumni Homecoming at the school’s campus on Saturday, April 27, where thousands of alumni enjoyed and shared fond memories with their friends and classmates.

The Alumni Homecoming with theme “Padayon ang pagtililipon kag sinadya sa ELNHS #alegacy@53” was hosted by Batch 1994 with their co-host Batch 1969 that celebrated its Golden Jubilee year.

ELNHS is a barrio high school situated at the heart of Barangay Granada. Basically, the school is surrounded by sugarcane fields but in close proximity to Police Station 5 and the Barangay Hall.

The school is also accessible to the nearest barangays such as Barangay Estefania and Barangay Alangilan.

This barrio high school was opened in 1962 through the passage of Resolution No. 294 s. 1962 in the leadership of Jose Ballesteros, Pedro Aguilar, and Flaviano Hechanova.

In 1966, the high school main building was officially turned-over and inaugurated in the permanent high school site covering 12 classrooms with 438 enrollees on that year. The school was then known as Don Emiliano Lizares National High School.

The school was nationalized in 1988-1989 and was renamed Emiliano Lizares National High School.

ELNHS Alumni Association president Sotero Montelibano, of Batch 1982, said the celebration of Alumni Homecoming started in 1991.

He said he’s thankful for the support and participation of all the batches.

“So far, this is the biggest crowd since we started the Alumni Homecoming 28 years ago,” he added.

Montelibano noted of 53 batches, more than 40 batches had confirmed their attendance before the event.

“The Alumni Homecoming is all about friendship, brotherhood, generosity and memories that we had here. It’s also the time that we can help our Alma Mater through the implementation of various programs for the school and its students,” Montelibano said.

He said the Alumni Association already facilitated the construction of learning parks and school shades.

“Let’s support our alumni association to continue our program here for the benefits of our school and students,” he added.

The Alumni Association also honored the Golden Jubilarians of Batch 1969.

This year, Batch 2000 retained its record for winning Best in t-shirt design and Best in Booth contests themed Kisi-kisi Festival of Ilog town.

In 2018, Batch 2000 was adjudged as Best in t-shirt design and Best in Booth.

This year’s theme for t-shirt and booth contests was Negros Festival.

Next year, the alumni homecoming will be hosted by Batch 1995 with their co-host the Batch 1970.*
