THE Department of Education starts today the weeklong Brigada Eskwela with the them, "Mabuhay Na Bayan Para sa Maunlad na Paaralan".

Deped- Division of Negros Occidental has launched the activity on March 17 at Lopez Jaena National High School in Murcia and at Ilog Elementary School as well as Oplan Balik Eskwela at the Negros Occidental High School also on the same date.

Dennis Develos, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent said that Brigada Eskwela is Deped's way of bringing together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort and

resources in order to prepare public school facilities ready for the opening of school year 2019-2020

Oplan Balik Eskwela, on the other hand Develos said is another means of the department to ensure that problems, issues and other concerns commonly encountered by the public at the start of the school year are properly addressed through the convergence of the different partners that have a stake in the education sector.

Meanwhile in the spirit of volunteerism and community service, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will join the Deped 2019 Brigada Eskwela program nationwide on May 20-25, 2019.

This is the first time PDEA will participate in the yearly undertaking throughout the country.

This year’s Brigada Eskwela with the theme “Matatag na Bayan Para sa Maunlad na Paaralan”, is the National Schools Maintenance Week that aims to gather together communities and education stakeholders including teachers, parents and students to participate and help prepare public school facilities for the opening of the school year in June 2019.

PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino, in a memorandum, directed all PDEA Regional Offices to actively participate in the week long initiative, and help ensure its effective implementation in selected public elementary and secondary schools in their respective areas.

“PDEA agents and personnel are more than ready to extend assistance in cleaning up classrooms and school grounds, and the repair and repainting of walls, ceilings, chairs, tables and other fixtures, in preparation for a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment for incoming students,” Aquino said.

PDEA has allocated P5,000 for each of the agency's 17 Regional Offices for the purchase of cleaning and beautification materials to be used during the program.

“In keeping with the Filipino spirit of bayanihan, PDEA volunteers its effort, time and resources to participate in the country’s quest to foster safe, healthy learning environment for today’s students and become tomorrow’s productive citizens,” the PDEA chief said.*
