- BY TERESA D. ELLERA

TEACHERS who served during the May 13 elections should be paid of their honorarium not later than May 25. The Association of Concerned Teachers (ACT)Negros made the appeal based on claims that some of the teachers have not yet received their pay for serving during the elections.

Gualberto Dajao, Chair of Act-negros said that they understand that Comelec cannot immediately release the honorarium but based on the Election Service Reform Act, releasing of honorarium should be made not later than 15 days after the election.

The chair of the electoral board will receive P6,000 while the poll clerk and the third member will receive P5,000 each.

Provincial. comelec Supervisor Atty.tictac Villanueva said that aside from the honorarium, members of the electoral board are also given P1,000 for their transportation allowance. They also received P2,000 each during the training for their travel expenses plus five days of service credits.

Villanueva said the Comelec has already started releasing the teachers’ honorarium on May 14.

In a related development, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said that they have sent a memorandum to the Commission En Banc that members of the electoral board worked overtime in precincts having defective SD cards.

Guanzon said, those teachers are entitled to additional pay for working overtime.

Aside from that, Guanzon also revealed that they are asking the local government units to pay the social workers, day care workers, the treasurers who have rendered work during election day.*
