- BY MERLINDA A. PEDROSA

THE City Government of Bacolod will inaugurate the P37 million Esplanade project from Lupit Bridge along the Circumferential Road going to the Bacolod Government Center (BGC) on June 17.

Councilor Em Ang, chairperson of the City Council Committee on tourism, said yesterday that after the inauguration, the Esplanade will be open to the public.

She said it’s already approved by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Congressman Greg Gasataya, and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The Esplanade project was constructed with a flood wall, benches, railings, lighting facilities and blocks to make the area more attractive.

The half-kilometer Esplanade project has a total budget of P37 million and this is the first Esplanade project in Bacolod.

Esplanade is a long open, level area, typically beside sea or river, along which people may walk for pleasure.

On Thursday, Ang also authored a proposed ordinance regulating the activities at the Bacolod City Esplanade.

Ang said the Esplanade is constructed primarily as a Park wherein Bacolenos and tourist, could relax and unwind.

She said the quality of the Bacolod City Esplanade as a park should be preserved and maintained at all times. “There is a need to regulate all activities at the

Bacolod City Esplanade in order to achieve the primary purpose why it is constructed,’ she added.

Section 4 of the proposed ordinance states that any and all activities by the City Government of Bacolod, the national government, or any of its instrumentalities in the Bacolod City Esplanade pursuant to law, national orders, ordinances, or executive orders shall be allowed provided however, that no necessary temporary structure or structures that may be made thereon as a result of said activity shall destroy or damage any part of the area covered.*
