City dad eyes construction of healthcare centers
BACOLOD City Councilor Al Victor Espino is now planning to propose the construction of primary healthcare centers in the city.
Espino, chairperson of the City Council committee on ways and means, said yesterday that the primary hospital in Bacolod, which is the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, is already congested.
He said the CLMMRH caters patients in Negros Occidental and 60 percent of its patients are from Bacolod City.
“So we need to address that by creating primary healthcare centers in the barangays,” he added.
Espino noted that they are now conducting a study to materialize the program.
“Based on our study, we cannot afford to have our own hospital but we can definitely afford this primary health centers catering to diseases that are prevalent in the barangays such as fever and diarrhea among others or the basic diseases that are not needed to be rushed to the CLMMRH,” Espino said.
He said it will not only be beneficial to Bacolod City but to the entire province of Negros Occidental.
“We are thinking of putting up infirmaries in the primary healthcare centers that will have 15 to 20 beds with complete staff and facilities,” he added.
Espino also asked the assistance of Congressman Greg Gasataya for the construction of the said project.
Espino said he will pass an ordinance to materialize the program in August, and the first primary healthcare center will be built in Barangay Villamonte.
Aside from Barangay Villamonte, he said that they will also build two more primary healthcare centers in two barangays.
He added that this program will be funded by the City Government.
