Sun Star Bacolod

Flowerdoll Karchedel

- BY HEIZ HOFILEÑA MACAIRAN

S teve Maramboli once shared that we should never let tall weeds cast a shadow on the beautiful flowers in our garden. In this life, we have to weed out so that our flowers could bloom.

In February 22, 1999, a flower child was born. Karchedel Allyssa Concepcion was a seemingly timid kid, yet, she is one resilient young lady who keeps her head above the pothole and water.

At the age of 11, she started out as the Teen Queen of BLACKOUT MODELS (post-reign of actress Chanel Morales). At that tender preteen age, she already had her share of detractors from envious bashers to fakers and online posers. Still, nothing keeps a good girl down with the love of her family, colleagues, true believers and followers. Despite being at the center of the limelight since her childhood years, this little girl remained humble and unassuming.

In 2012, GMA launched a new format of reality TV show known as PROTEGÉ. Everyone was thrilled to audition. Thirteen year old Karchedel was urged by her peers and mentors to join this audition. However, she wasn’t able to attend the screening scheduled for Bacolod. Good thing I myself was informed by the network that there will be an Iloilo schedule the following day. I personally urged Karchedel and her mother to cross the waters and travel to Iloilo City for this chance to be screened. Upon seeing Karchedel, a friend of mine who’s a show director for GMA candidly exclaimed, “We’ve found the new Carmina Villaroel!” Thankfully, Karch was handpicked by the showrunners themselves to be included in the show.

Upon stepping into college, Karchedel then refocused her energy towards her scholastic goals with the firm guidance of her family. This means, she had to painstakingly strive to resist various enticing offers. She had to give up promising opportunities of becoming a star. According to Hollywood’s own flower child Drew Barrymore, we must never focus on what was taken away. Instead, we must find something to replace it with, and acknowledge the blessings we have. That is a piece of mind from one flower child to another.

Consequently, all of Karchedel’s efforts have finally paid off. This year is truly a big year for Karch. This welltravelled beauty finished her bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management from the University Of Saint La Salle. She currently helps her mother in managing their businesses, most especially with their newly launched FLOWERDOLL boutique at the 2nd floor of Mayfair Plaza. Also recently, she was hired by BDO. She is definitely rooting to build a career in banking.

With the guiding light set by her family, most especially by her mother Karen, the values of hardwork and sacrifice were instilled and cultivated deep into the core of this little flower. Indeed, success requires sacrifices. This promising little flower is truly in bloom.*
