THE Silver Masskara Festival Organization, Inc. (SMFOI) of Bacolod City vowed to level up this year’s 40th Masskara Festival celebration themed “Bacolod City of Smiles”.

Festival director Eli Francis Tajanlangit said this year’s festival, will be a Ruby Masskara Festival celebration and they’re going to level up the festival.

He said on September 8, they will unveil the major art’s installation that will be something like a memorial to the festival.

“We will also unveil the logo. The logo will capture the 40 years of the Masskara. The first logo that was done by Ely Santiago, of the Art Association of Bacolod, will be integrated to Yuhom,” he added.

This year’s Masskara Festival celebration will start on October 8 to 27.

On August, 14, the 10 candidates for 2019 Masskara Festival Queen already paid a courtesy call to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Tajanlangit said this year’s Masskara Festival Queen will be unlike other Masskara queen.

“We are putting in a lot of work into the production design, the training of the candidates. And it’s for the first time that we have a Masskara Queen (MQ) Academy to train our candidates. They already started the physical fitness program among others so that they will be prepared for the pageant,” he said.

The MQ candidates are Christine Mendoza, 22; Roem Alcaen, 22: Moira Maci Abesamis, 21; Adrea Sagario, 17; Trecia Tuquero, 21; Vena Marie Pena, 20; Chaira Victoria Juarez, 18; Chainee May Ang, 21; Janine Cabrillos, 18; and Queenie Edessa Amarante, 19.

Tajanlangit said the girls were screened from the 35 who applied for the pageant and 12 of them were disqualified for technical reasons because most of them did not reach the 5’4 height requirement.

He said the MQ pageant will be on October 23 at Ayala Malls Capitol Central, Gatuslao Street, Bacolod City.

The SMFOI is also finalizing their lists of activities such the street dance competition, electric Masskara competition among others.
