BTAO to conduct traffic experiment

- BY MERLINDA A. PEDROSA

THE Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) will conduct a traffic experiment on Monday for the proposal to transfer the three terminals of the public utility jeepney from Hilado Street to Daniel Ramos Street near the Burgos Public Market in Bacolod City.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on market, said yesterday this was their proposal to BTAO head Police Lieutenant Colonel Luisito Acebuce to transfer the terminals of Granada, San Dionisio and Alangilan from Hilado Street to Daniel Ramos Street to address the traffic congestion along Burgos Street.

Pineda along with Acebuce and the presidents of the three drivers associations in Hilado Street held a meeting at the Bacolod Government Center on Wednesday.

“We want to address the traffic congestion along Hilado Street and the officials of the drivers association also agreed to this proposal,” Pineda said.

He said these terminals had caused the traffic congestion in Hilado Street because of the diagonal parking of the drivers on the roads and the big volume of vehicles in the area due to the traffic light at Burgos Street.

“We will talk with Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairperson of the City Council committee on transportation, for the possible amendment of the city’s traffic ordinance because we want to address this problem,” he added.

Pineda also asked the cooperation of the affected drivers to maintain the smooth flow of traffic in Bacolod.

Last week, hundreds of vegetables and fruits vendors at Daniel Ramos Street and Burgos Street were demolished and transferred inside the Burgos Public Market in compliance with the of President Rodrigo Duterte to rid public streets of obstructions to facilitate the orderly use of thoroughfares.*
