Comelec to hold voter’s registration in City Mall today

- BY MERLINDA A. PEDROSA

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City will hold a voter’s registration at the City Mall in Barangay Mandalagan today for the May 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls.

City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-sia said the registration will start from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and they will accept registrants

from aged 15-years old and up since there’s an SK election.

She said registrants should bring valid government identification cards (ID) with picture and signature, original and photocopy of birth certificate. If their residence is not stated on the ID, they could bring a proof of their residence or billing statements like water or electric bills.

She added it’s part of their requirement to hold a voter’s registration in mall.

Majarucon-sia noted they already informed the officials of Barangay Bata and Mandalagan for the said activity.

Majarucon-sia said the City Mall earlier approached them to hold the voter’s registration at the mall.

She said on September 6, Comelec will also hold a voter’s registration in Taytung High School with Comelec Director Frances Arabe.

She added on September 23 to 30, the last day of the voter’s registration, will be held at the Bacolod Government Center Annex Building.

Majarucon-sia noted that the registration will not be extended and on the last day of registration, they will accommodate those registrants in the area.

From July this year, Comelec already registered about

500,000 voters in Bacolod, and they already deactivated a total of 42,000 registered voters who failed to cast their votes for two previous elections.

Majarucon-sia said these are voters who failed to cast their votes in previous barangay and SK elections and in 2019 local and national elections.

The Comelec urged the registrants to register early to avoid overcrowding on the last day of the registration.*
