SMB breaks ground for new facility in Iloilo

LEGANES, Iloilo – San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) will hold the groundbrea­king for a new production facility in Barangay Gua-an, Leganes, Iloilo on September 20.

SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang will lead the groundbrea­king ceremony, together with Senator Franklin Drilon, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., Leganes Mayor Vicente Jaen II, Gua-an Barangay Captain Alberto Capajay Jr., and other Iloilo local government officials.

The completion of the new production facility is expected in about two years. It will have an initial capacity of one million hectoliter­s.

SMB has two breweries in the Visayas region, the Mandaue and

Bacolod breweries, built in 1968 and 1990, respective­ly.

The Iloilo facility is part of San Miguel’s ongoing capacity expansion program, first announced in 2017, to grow its core business, meet increased demand, and bring economic growth and jobs to key regions nationwide.

SMB is set to complete a new brewery in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and convert its existing Santa Rosa, Laguna bottling facility into a full-fledged brewery. The company is also developing a more efficient distributi­on system.

“We look forward to growing our presence in the Visayas region. This major developmen­t is an important part of San Miguel’s current expansion in key regions nationwide,” SMC president and COO Ramon Ang said.

“Our aim is to help our nation achieve its developmen­t goals by investing in emerging growth areas. With this investment, we hope to help accelerate the region’s overall growth and bring more jobs to our countrymen in the south,” Ang said.

“This is a significan­t milestone for our company as we continue to pursue new growth opportunit­ies. Over the long-term, this new facility will allow us to address growing demand and maximize efficienci­es throughout the supply chain,” SMB president Roberto Huang said.

SMB is the market leader in the beer industry, holding over 95% market share. SMB has breweries strategica­lly located in Valenzuela, Pampanga, Mandaue, Davao del Sur and Bacolod, and a bottling facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
