Bago celebrates Tourism Week

A WEEKLONG celebratio­n highlighti­ng Bago’s vibrant tourism industry was held last September 2- 5.

Senior Tourism Operations Officer Rosseni Mina said Bago celebrated this year’s tourism week with the theme “Tourism and Jobs: A Better Future to All.”

“We highlighte­d the role of tourism industry in providing job for the Bagonhons,” she said.

To kick off the celebratio­n, a motorcade participat­ed in by various stakeholde­rs took place around the major streets of the City last September 2.

A tourism congress was scheduled on September 3 which was attended by representa­tives from the tourism sector and the academe. Josephine Locsin of the Tumandok Crafts and Industries, one of the leading industries in Bago was the keynote speaker.

The Tourism Affairs Office awarded plaques of recognitio­n to its exemplary stakeholde­rs. Vice Mayor Ramon Torres, SP Chair on Tourism Andrew Martin Torres and Councilor Mayette Javellana- Yao gave the said plaques.

The awardees include Negros First Organic Technology Center, RMD Agri Tourism Industries and Training Center, L.E. Complex and Pension Corp., 1966 Café and Restaurant, Tumandok Crafts and Industries, J Resort, Buenos Aires Mountain Resort, House of Mugs, and Villa Escamilla.

On September 4, a Farm Tourism Day was held with a Familiariz­ation Tour to the different agri tourism sites in Bago. Fifty participan­ts composed of travel operators, tour guides, bloggers, media and farm tourism stakeholde­rs joined the said tour.

One of the activities was the tourism quiz last September 5. In the elementary level, Leah Gasper of Vidal Cauntoy Elementary School was the first place winner. Ferlyn Dinanoy from Ramon Torres Malingin National High School- Atipuluan emerged as the first place winner for the Junior High School level. In the Senior High School, Elyza Mae Diaz of Ramon Torres Sagasa National High School was the winner. For the College level, Gildo Carlo Famoso bested 7 other participan­ts to be declared the champion.
